This category lists verbs with the classical 下二段活用 (shimo nidan katsuyō, “lower bigrade conjugation”) pattern. This is archaic in the modern language, and has been superseded by the 一段活用 (ichidan katsuyō, “monograde conjugation”) pattern, with such verbs also called "ru-verbs" or "type 2 verbs".
